MECHMATH team discovered a harmonic locking phenomenon in sea-harbor systems

The harmonic locking relates to systems of two (or more) enclosed water bodies and consists of tuning the oscillations of system’s parts.

This discovery is central in the prediction of changes in harbor caused by large-scale engineering and flood prediction.

The phenomenon was discovered numerically and it is shown for the pair the Mediterranean Sea (blue in the figure below) and the Adriatic Sea (red).
